Alaska Airlines unattended minor process

arrival at the airport

Alaska states arrive at least 90 minutes before departure for domestic flights and 2 hours for international flights. (I would probably extend these guidelines an additional 30 minutes to be on the safe side.)

Upon arrival at the airport, you must go to a ticket agent and tell them that you have a child traveling as an unaccompanied minor (Junior Jetsetter).

Note: Proof of age (e.g. birth certificate or passport) may be required upon check-in at the airport.

You must fill out and sign the tutor contact form. If you have already filled out the form online and printed it out, you will save time.

To fill out the form, you will need the names and phone numbers of all legal guardians who will pick up and drop off the child. (You must also provide an alternate guardian for each direction in case of an emergency.)

Remember that the unaccompanied minor will only be released to those who have a valid photo ID that matches what is listed on the parent form.

You must pay the unaccompanied minor service fee. (Fees for children traveling alone can be paid at online check-in, at a self-service check-in kiosk, or at any Alaska Airlines ticket booth at the airport.)

pass the airport

After completing the forms and paying the fee, the ticket office will provide you with an escort ID to accompany the unaccompanied minor to the gate.

The unaccompanied minor will be provided with a lanyard and wristband to wear while under the care of Alaska Airlines.

During the flight

During the flight, your unaccompanied minor can expect:

  • An entertainment tablet on coast-to-coast and Hawaii flights
  • A complimentary meal in the main cabin on flights longer than 2 hours
