## Definition of Force and Force Equation

What is strength?

π The strength isany interaction that, if unopposed, can alter the motion of an object.

If you are asked, "What is strength?" someone who is not a physicist would probably think about pushing and pulling. A physicist would think of the change in velocity of an object. To understand why, let's look at the force equation:

Acceleration is the change in velocity over time. And, as you see in the force formula, the greater the force, the greater the acceleration. So if something is accelerating, say a car, it can transmit a significant force if it collides with another car. This force is proportional to the mass of the car and its acceleration (from standstill). Another example would be the human impact force, where the mass and acceleration of the body are directly proportional to the impact force.

## Newton's laws of motion

Newton developed three laws of motion that explain the motion of all physical objects. They are the foundation of everything.classical mechanics, which is also known asnewtonian mechanics.

1. Newton's first law of motion

An object will either remain at rest or continue to move in uniform motion unless acted upon by an external force.

2. Newton's second law of motion

The force exerted by an object is equal to the mass times the acceleration of that object:$\small F = m \cdot a$F=metroβan.

3. Newton's third law of motion

When one body exerts a force on a second body, the second body exerts a force of equal magnitude and opposite direction on the first body (for every action, there is always an equal but opposite reaction).

## types of forces

All forces in classical mechanics are subject to three of Newton's laws of motion.

• gravitational forceis the attraction between any two objects of non-zero mass. You walk on the ground instead of floating because of this force: gravity. It's wielded by everything around you, like the screen you're reading this on. It's so little; it is imperceptible

• normal forceis the reaction to the gravitational force- a perfect example of Newton's third law. When you are standing, you exert a force (equal to the force of gravity) on the ground. The ground exerts an equal force on you.

• Frictionis a force that opposes motion. It is proportional to the normal force acting between an object and the ground. In winter, sand is applied to icy surfaces to increase friction and prevent slipping.

• Voltageis an axial force that passes through ropes, chains, springs, and other objects when there is external tension. For example, if you are walking your dog and you pull him forward, you create tension in the leash.

• centrifugal forceis a force acting on a rotating object. Have you ever been on a carousel? Do you remember the feeling of being pushed out? The centrifugal force caused that sensation.

• Pressureis a measure of the force applied to a surface. If you inflate a balloon, the air particles inside it will exert pressure on the balloon. All particles feel the same force, so the balloon inflates evenly.

## How to find strength?

Let's look at some exercises so that nothing surprises you in your physics class.

1. Find the acceleration and retardation (stopping) force:

A cheetah has a mass of 50 kg. It accelerates from rest to 50 km/h in 3 seconds. It then starts to slow down steadily and stops after 8 seconds.

The retarding force is negative because it is in the opposite direction to the accelerating force.

If the mass is three times as heavy, the force must be three times as great.

## What is the resultant force?

strength is onevector. That means it has a value and an address. That's why you can't add them like regular (scalar) numbers.

Himresultant force($\small F_{\text{N}}$Fnorteβ) is the sum of the vectors of all the individual forces acting on an object. For example, let's look at a falling ball. It is affected by gravitational force ($\small F_{\text{G}} = 5\ \rm N$FGRAMSβ=5norte), air resistance ($\small F_{\rm R} = 1\ \rm N$FRβ=1norte) and the lateral force caused by the wind ($\small F_{\rm W} = 2\ \rm N$FCβ=2norte).

1. First, find the resultant force of the horizontal forces. They have opposite directions, so in part they cancel each other out:
